During WWII, thousands of Nationalist Chinese Air Force aviation cadets trained in the United States, beginning in March 1942. These, often called the "Chinese Detachment," were trained by U.S. Army Air Force instructors in various roles including pilots, navigators, and mechanics. This training aimed to modernize the Chinese air force to fight against Japan, with many joining the Chinese-American Composite Wing (CACW).
